Feathers has finally arrived on the scene with Absolute Noon, part 1 of a 3 EP series. The boys have created an absolutely lush introduction to their frame of mind, taking us all on a majestic journey through the rivers of melody and counterpoint, across the bleak mountaintops of minimal serialism, trodding past harpsichords and vintage electronics in the jungle of whimsy, and bringing us into a valley of relaxed contentment. Ok, enough faux-music-journalism-speak...this record rules. Here are a few details: After Eddie, Matt, and Eric cut their teeth in the South Florida music scene through various musical ventures, they have finally converged with Feathers. Countless demos were made in Miami, eventually leading them to Chicago's own Soma Electronic Music Studios with the trained ears and hands of Mikael Jorgenson (Wilco) and John McEntire (Tortoise, The Sea and Cake, et al) at the helm. Top studio musicans (Fred Lonberg-Holm, Jeb Bishop, Paul Mertens, and company) were brought in to help flesh out Absolute Noon's compositions with horns and strings and woodwinds (oh my!).
